187:0.3 (2004.3) What Jesus is now about to do, submit to death on the cross, he does of his own free will. In foretelling this experience, he said: “The Father loves and sustains me because I am willing to lay down my life. But I will take it up again. No one takes my life away from me—I lay it down of myself. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up. I have received such a commandment from my Father.”
One of the greatest revelations that the Urantia Book gives us is that Jesus was not sent by the Father to die on the Cross for our Sins. Unfortunately Christian religions have dealt with the inglorious death of our universe creator and sovereign as a “sacrifice” for us. That his whole point of coming to earth was to rid us of the original sin; another erroneous concept that had to be created by the Jewish religion in order to explain our “expulsion” from the garden of eden.
The 3 tasks that Michael of Nebadon assumed for his final bestowal mission and sojourn on earth are these:
- Complete his bestowal missions and become a full sovereign of his universe.
- Adjudicate the Lucifer Rebellion and imprison its leaders
- Present God as a Loving father of his Children, and not a vengeful overlord that demands blood from his subjects.
He didn’t come here to earth to be the “sacrificial lamb” that Christianity tells us. He could have lived a normal life and died of natural causes. Nevertheless he honored even the lowliest creatures will, and had to accept his death on the cross. He, as the creator and ruler of this universe, could have escaped his demise. Instead he honored the Will of the Father that gave us all free will, and had to accept the decisions and actions that were undertaken by the humans on this planet. This might have been seen as a submission or lack of power and sovereignty on this planet, but was regarded as a supreme decision in the heavens, since all higher creatures understood he was submitting to the will of the Father.
As stated in this quote, he’s the one that willingly lays down his life. Nevertheless he also says he will retake it back again, since he has the authority from his Father. This demonstrates that he is not being taken to death as a helpless lamb, but assumes it with full authority from the heavens and God. This also teaches us that no Will is higher than the Father’s Will, and that Jesus, being a descending son of God has to submit to it as well. Which he willingly does and teaches his entire universe that even him, a Creator Son is not above the Will of God.
