Teachings From Jesus 10

We want to share another teaching from Jesus.

“Your actual achievement is not so important as the fact that the direction of your progress is Godward. What you are becoming day by day is of infinitely more importance than what you are today.”  Jesus, 147:5.7 (1653.1)

In this teaching we discover that unchanging faith and service is what’s most important in our daily lives.  The inward progression of discovering God and doing his will is what we must never lose sight of, even if we experience success.  It’s very easy to be humble when life hasn’t been very rewarding, nevertheless maintaining the humility in spite of success is much more important.

We view secular life as a series of achievements, or material successes that mark our progress.  These are important markers, but they pale in comparison to the value of always progressing Godward.  One may be absent of material successes, but be blessed by other less material sources such as gaining wisdom or raising a family.  Sometimes the hardest of times are the best teachers.  There’s another quote in the Urantia Book  that mentions that defeat is the true mirror by which you can measure yourself.

So, in the end, we must always pray to be lead Godward.  We must always seek to bare the fruits of the spirit, instead of material possessions that may suggest some kind of success.  When we pray, we must ask for lessons and wisdom from life.
